The Cherry Plum tree (Prunus cerasifera) is one of the first broadleaf trees to flower in the UK, producing masses of white blossom in late winter and early spring before the leaves emerge. A versatile hedging plant, Cherry Plum grows in most soil types and tolerates both sun and light shade, and can be grown as a standalone specimen or pruned into an attractive fruiting hedge. Yellow and red cherry-like fruits follow the blossom, attracting birds and other wildlife, while the early flowers provide a valuable nectar source for bees when little else is in bloom. Naturally bushy in habit, Cherry Plum can reach up to 8m in height.

Ripe fruits can be harvested for jams and jellies, adding practical value to Cherry Plum's ornamental appeal for wildlife and productive garden schemes.

Fairly wind resistant and frost tolerant, Cherry Plum makes a reliable hedge plant for exposed sites, gardens and landscape schemes across the UK.
